The Basic Input Output System, or BIOS, is totally independent of your operating system. The BIOS instructs the system hardware and some communication devices. Most people tend to leave their BIOS alone and never enter the BIOS setup, but there are some options that may need to be changed when changes are made to the hardware.
Change the boot order is the most common changes that users make, and some users overclock the CPU to increase computer speed. The BIOS may vary depending on the motherboard, but what operating system is running has nothing to do with your configuration.

Instructions

Turn on the computer, or restart the computer if it is already running.

Press the correct key combination to enter the BIOS before the Windows logo appears. This key will vary depending on the computer manufacturer and BIOS. Most systems use Esc, Del, F2 or F1. As the computer boots, a message on the screen that indicates which key to use to enter the system configuration appears. If pressing one of these buttons takes you to a screen boot order, select Settings to continue with the BIOS settings. If you see the Windows logo, restart the computer and try to enter the settings again.

Use the arrow keys and function to navigate through the different areas of your BIOS to change the setting. The arrow keys usually change the values for each of the settings. Each BIOS will have specific instructions on the bottom right of the screen and how to navigate. You will not be able to use the mouse because the mouse is the operating system and the operating system is not running controlled.
