Aplicaciones remains to see

Google Docs has become in recent years the main alternative to traditional office suites, such as Office. Its system of collaborative work in the cloud and marked a revolution in the sector and to the very Microsoft had to counter with their own web service, Office 365 now joins this battle a new contender: Dropbox.

And the popular cloud ‘storage service Paper has launched a platform for editing documents from the browser in real time and share with our contacts Dropbox.

As main difference from its competitors, Paper lets you insert your files any photo or video that have hosted on Dropbox (plus YouTube videos and songs on SoundCloud), simply inserting the link to the file in the document.

On the contrary, Paper does not yet have all the options of rich text and customization available Google Docs, for example, indicating that this service will be more oriented to small documents with multimedia content to share with friends over professional goals.

Among other features we’ve known Paper is the possibility to create to-do lists, mentioning people in the document to notify them when their help is needed to continue with the text and even make side comments in a particular paragraph.

Waiting list

Paper is the result of buying HackPad, a company that had its own document editing service in the cloud. Previous users of this platform can migrate to Paper or continue to use previous versions.

At the moment Paper is not available, but is being tested. Dropbox allows enroll in a sort of waiting list that we be notified the moment we begin to enjoy this service.

It remains to see if Dropbox gets to make a difference in the market for office productivity and cloud, as the shortage of options in front of Google Docs or Office 365 can be a major obstacle for many users. We will also see, in the coming months if its main competitors echo become interesting tool to insert multimedia content through links and incorporate into their own platforms.
